How to choose a web design agency in Punjab: a practical checklist
In 30 seconds
- Choose a web design agency by evidence, not by promises: live work you can test on your phone, a written scope and clear ownership.
- Ask who will actually design and build your site, and who you will talk to every week.
- Be careful with guaranteed rankings, "lifetime free hosting" and prices that seem too low for the scope.
- A short paid discovery or a detailed proposal tells you more about an agency than any sales call.
Who this is for: business owners in Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Mohali, Patiala and Bathinda hiring someone to design or rebuild their website.
Why this decision matters more than it looks
Your website is where people decide whether to trust you. A student comparing IELTS centres, a buyer in Delhi evaluating a Ludhiana hosiery unit, or a patient choosing a clinic in Jalandhar often sees your site before they ever call. A slow, outdated or confusing site quietly loses those people, and you never find out.
Punjab has hundreds of web design agencies and freelancers, from one-person studios to large IT companies in Mohali. Most are honest. The problem is that they look similar from the outside, so here is a practical way to tell them apart.
Before you contact anyone
- Write the goal in one line. For example: "Get 30 demo-class enquiries a month from Google and Instagram."
- List must-have pages and features. Services, locations, booking, payments, WhatsApp, catalogue, blog.
- Collect three sites you like and note why: speed, layout, tone, photos.
- Decide a budget range and deadline. A range lets agencies propose honestly instead of guessing.
Step 1: Test their work, do not just look at it
Every agency has a portfolio page. What matters is whether the work is live, fast and relevant to you.
- Open two or three of their live projects on your phone, on mobile data, not office Wi-Fi.
- Check if pages load quickly and text is readable without zooming.
- Try the enquiry form and the WhatsApp button. Do they work?
- Run the URL through Google PageSpeed Insights. Scores are not everything, but very poor mobile scores are a warning.
- Ask which parts the agency did: design, development, content, or all three.
A portfolio of mockups and screenshots with no live links is not necessarily bad, especially for new studios, but ask for a live demo or a working sample you can click.
Step 2: Ask how they work
A good agency can explain its process in plain language. Ask:
- How do you understand my business and customers before designing?
- When will I see the design, and how many rounds of changes are included?
- Who writes the content? If it is me, when do you need it?
- Who will I talk to during the project, and how often will I get updates?
- How do you test before launch: mobile, forms, speed, SEO basics?
Vague answers like "don't worry, we'll handle everything" are less useful than a simple week-by-week plan.
Step 3: Settle ownership and access in writing
This is the step owners skip most often, and regret most often.
- The domain is registered in your name and email.
- You get the hosting, admin and analytics logins, or the code repository.
- Your Google Business Profile and Search Console are in your Google account, with the agency added as a manager.
- There is no lock-in to a private panel you cannot move away from.
Paying for a website that lives on the agency's account. If the relationship ends, you may lose the site, the domain or years of Google history.
Step 4: Check that SEO basics are part of the build
You do not need to be an SEO expert, but your agency should include these at no extra charge in any professional build:
- A unique title and description for every page
- One clear main heading per page and logical subheadings
- Fast loading and mobile-friendly layout
- Schema markup for your business, and FAQ markup where there are real FAQs
- A sitemap submitted to Google Search Console and Bing
- Separate pages for each main service, rather than everything on one page

Red flags to watch for
- Guaranteed first-page or number-one rankings. Nobody controls Google. Google's own guidance warns about SEO firms that guarantee rankings.
- Fake-looking reviews or numbers that cannot be verified, such as thousands of projects from a team that started last year.
- No written scope, only a total price.
- Pressure to pay 100% upfront before seeing any design.
- "Lifetime free" hosting or domain with no terms in writing.
- No contract or invoice, or reluctance to share a GST invoice if they are registered.
Step 5: Compare proposals side by side
| Compare | What good looks like |
|---|---|
| Scope | Pages and features listed one by one |
| Timeline | Milestones with dates, including your content deadline |
| Design | Custom design approved before development |
| SEO | On-page basics, schema, sitemap and Search Console included |
| Ownership | Domain, code and accounts in your name |
| Support | A defined period of fixes after launch and a clear rate afterwards |
| Running cost | Yearly hosting, domain and subscription costs stated upfront |

Does the agency need to be in your city?
Not always. Most design and development work happens on calls and shared screens. But a Punjab-based team understands local customers: how people search ("near me", Hinglish), how much they rely on WhatsApp and Google Maps, and what builds trust in Ludhiana or Amritsar compared with Bengaluru. Being able to meet once in person at the start is a real plus for many owners.
After launch: what should happen next
A website is not finished on launch day. In the first month, check enquiries, fix anything confusing and confirm Google is indexing your pages. Over the year, add service and location pages, publish helpful articles and keep your Google Business Profile active. Ask agencies what they recommend after launch, and whether they offer it as an optional monthly service rather than a forced package.

Common questions
How do I choose the best web design agency in Punjab?
Test their live work on your phone, ask how they work, get a written scope, make sure you own the domain, code and accounts, and check that SEO basics are included. Avoid anyone who guarantees rankings.
Should I hire a freelancer or an agency?
A freelancer can be great for a small, clear project. An agency is usually better when you need design, development, content and ongoing marketing together, or when you cannot afford delays if one person is unavailable.
How many quotes should I get?
Two or three detailed proposals are enough. More than that usually adds confusion, not clarity.
Is it a red flag if an agency guarantees first-page rankings?
Yes. No one can guarantee Google rankings. A good agency explains what it will do and how it will report progress.
